Our Christmas Home Tour
Christmas is my favourite holiday because of the all the fun parties, parades, family activities and seeing my kids so excited! And lets not forget about going all out, decorating and rearranging the house. Our tree is up, decorated and most presents have been wrapped. I'd say we are just about done decking the halls around here. This year I decided to go with a neutral colour pallet for the holidays... but you probably already knew that from previous posts? Here's a look at our 2014 Christmas Home Tour- its a little different from what we have going on this year. This year its all about lush greenery, mixed with natural wood elements that create a cozy yet modern space. Instead of accenting with reds, I went with greens, neutrals and a splash of sparkle.
Welcome to Our Christmas Home Tour
Our entrance and command center is where we like hide our mail and that kind of fun junk. With our boys mitts, hats and boots, we needed more then just our closet for storage, we use this cute antique dresser for extra storage. The round seagrass wall hanging I found at the thrift store, I have no idea what it was used for before (probably on the table?) but I decided to hang it on the wall for now!
My mother-in-law gave me a few of these adorable owls from Wicker Emporium. This is our main living room/ sitting room. It's been one of the toughest rooms to decorate and re-arrange. The room is shaped long and there are two large walkways, the entrance and into the kitchen. I first fell in love with our house because of the sunlight came through the main living area, but living with all this light we needed some new blinds, curtains weren't going to cut it anymore. I found these affordable bamboo blinds at Bouclair. Instead of spending a fortune of custom blinds, we bought these blinds a little bit bigger and my dad measured and cut the bamboo sides to fit perfectly in our window. We moved the TV and an *oversized chair downstairs a few months ago, most people that walk into our home ask "where's the TV"!? To be honest, we don't watch that much TV during the day, and we really wanted to keep our main floor toy clutter free. By moving the TV down stairs the boys have a place to play and its an entertainment area for us too. Jack knows how to liven the place up around here! Keeping the walls simple with greenery and neutral wall hangings. The galvanized ornament is from Michaels and the flocked wreath, Dollarama. This year's theme is buffalo check, minty green, rustic with a modern whimsical twist. Our woodland Christmas tree. The buffalo check ribbon is from Walmart, and the ornaments I'v collected or were given as gifts throughout the years. I love an old rustic looking Christmas tree :)Jack helped we wrap a few presents the other day... he did more cutting and taping then wrapping! Our wrapping is pretty basic around here, probably because I really dislike the wrapping part. Although, I love putting the ribbon and bows on afterwards, once I'm done mangling with the packaging! Gift bags are so much easier, but wrapped presents are SO much cuter! It's a battle... Our blue rug from Target is usually down stairs during the summer and every other month except for winter, the kids drag in so much dirt and sand! It's definitely not dirt friendly nor for high traffic areas. I really want to replace it with a jute rug, I'v heard great things about them and I think it will be able to withstand my rambunctious dirt lovin' kids :) On top of the coffee table, I found that glass dome from Value Village. I placed an assortment or gold ball ornaments inside for some extra holiday sparkle, surprisingly the kids have no figured out or attempted to remove all the balls, yet!I recently transformed this mantel a few weeks ago. I'll share some more before and after photos in another post. The wooden trees my dad and I made and the LED string lights are from Zehrs for $5!! The Christmas card holder was another DIY (I'll be sharing a step-by-step tutorial soon). Bottle brush trees from the Dollar Store, seriously that place has so much fun and festive stuff! Here's our Hot Cocoa bar, known as the kids favourite part of the living room (only because theres treats hidden over there). The wood slice garland is a DIY, you can see the tutorial here. Here's our dining area, "Inviting the Outdoors in" theme, seen in the Hello Holiday guide here! The guest favors are made from soup cans wrapped in vintage paper with a little seedling tree planted inside. To make your very own click here for details. These no-sew buffalo check napkins were the easiest DIY ever! You can learn how to make your own, here. This DIY Holiday Marquee Sign can also be seen in Hello Holiday, here. This sign brings so much whimsical into our kitchen, it's full of fun bold texture and shine- it's definitely the "wow" in our home!
Well that does it for our Christmas home tour, I will be sharing some more projects over the next few weeks, stay tuned!
Thanks for stopping by and Happy Holidays guys!!
