Salt Dough Donut Ornaments

Salt Dough Donut Ornaments diyWhen Jack was around 6 months we made a hand print ornament - it was a fun and easy activity so I wanted to do something similar again this year. So spontaneously while Jack and Max were both having an afternoon nap, I decided to make some salt dough donut ornaments! I knew Jack would love painting some donuts when he woke up... because donuts are the best right!? These one's aren't edible... Jack found out after he bit into one, yikes. Read on to see how I made these tasty looking decorations!

Salt Dough Donut Ornaments

Ingredients

• 2 cups all purpose flour• 1/2 cup salt• 1 - 1 1/4 cup water

Directions

• In an electric mixer combine flour and salt, mix until well blended• With the mixer on low speed, add water slowly until the dough starts to clump together• Once dough is clumped together, use your hands to form the dough into a ball• Wrap in plastic wrap and place in fridge for ten minutes *this will firm dough• Using a cutting board, counter top, etc. cover it with flour and start rolling out dough• Cut into the dough using your favourite cookie cutters• With a tooth pick or any small circular object, make a hole at top of ornament to attach ribbon for later• Transfer ornaments onto parchment paper and cookie sheet• Set oven temperature to 300 degrees and bake for 30 minutes• Once the ornaments have cooled down, apply paint and ribbon

This is me being spontaneous - No cookie cutters or rolling pins... I had to improvise using a cup and nail polish as a cookie cutter and a bottle of wine for a rolling pin ;).

Wishing everyone safe travels and a very Merry Christmas!!
