Lately I have been browsing Pinterest for some playroom inspiration! We are transitioning our basement and it's always great to get inspired by other creative people and their designs. Below I have narrowed it down a few of my favourite spaces and I want to share them with you. I am attracted to bright airy spaces with lots of fun bold colour, a perfect space for kids ;)

Playroom Inspiration viaI cant get enough of these unique shaped honeycomb shelves, by adding your own backing it gives your space a little extra burst of colour.Playroom Inspiration viaTalk about one beautiful wall mural! The colour combination paired with those adorable dipped stools is perfection.

Playroom InspirationviaWhite as a simple background emphasizes every pop of colour, while small details of a space stand out.

Playroom InspirationviaToy storage and shelving is a must. Using wire baskets and a bold accent colour adds interest to any space. Sometimes toys themselves add plenty of colour!

Playroom InspirationviaTeepees, book ledges and a colourful rug are must haves in a kids space! Even I want to curl up and read a book in that adorable teepee :)Playroom InspirationviaArts and crafts are one of the best ways to keep kids entertained! And chalkboard walls are sure to keep those little ones imagination's flowing.

Now that I have shared my inspiration, you think planning your very own kids playroom space would be a little easier. There are so many creative directions I want to go that this whole process is pretty tough! Below is the before and right now its a big toy dumping playground, you can see more updates here.littledekonings.basement.entertainmentarea.before

Some of the items on the boys playroom list are:• Teepee• Retro toy storage/shelf• Mountain wall mural• Table and chair set• chalkboard• Art and craft station• Art galley display

Am I forgetting anything? We also plan to use this space as a family/entertainment room for lounging with a nice large TV hung above the mantel. Brent and I will also have a small work space in the corner (not shown). This room is also equipped with a bathroom and a small kitchenette... can you say popcorn parties? I know that once this space has some cable and comfortable seating, we will be hibernating down here in the colder months! And no more toy explosion all over the rest of the house... but who am I kidding, there will just be another trail of toys leading down to the basement! *handsoverface

What are some of your top essentials when it comes to designing or setting up a kids playroom/area?
