A "Chairish" Bedroom

When we first bought our house, I have to admit that I had no idea how to design and style a room. The only source of help I had available was family (my mom) and Pinterest, and even Pinterest was no where near what it is today!  Over the past three years of pinning and following favourite bloggers on Instagram, I feel a little more confident in the design department... hence all the changes I'v been making around my home (sorry Brent)! You can see some of my home inspiration here. The great thing about this blog is that I can share all that I love and what inspires me without breaking the bank -- And by that, I can create mood boards featuring the products I love with the sources to refer back on, or a useful tool to estimate the cost/budget for a room. If I'm changing up a room or need a visual before moving forward on a project, there are thousands of products all at my fingertips!I have been inspired by the company Chairish as I have never seen an online service quite like them before, other then Kijiji (which isn't even comparable) and physically browsing flea markets and auction sales. After browsing their website and seeing all the one-of-a-kind selections from furniture to lighting + even more, how could I resist! Creating a mood board of their products is the perfect way to showcase how awesome they are. Before I carry on, I will share a little info about the company. Chairish makes it "fun and easy for design lovers to buy and sell vintage furniture, decor, jewelry and accessories to one another". They offer products and decor from a large variety of styles, shabby chic being one of them! The website is organized according to category, colour, price, location and shipping, making it extremely easy to navigate!When deciding a room I wanted to create, instantly our master bedroom came to mind. There's nothing wrong with our bedroom, it just lacks that "wow" factor, or at least I think so. Most of our bedroom furnishings are ebony wood with a few painted night stands. Our walls are dark grey and the accent colour is yellow with touches of blue. Does this sound familiar? Everyone was using the grey and yellow matchy match combo a few years ago. It's still very nice, however I would love to switch things up *Unfortunately our bedroom will not be seeing a makeover any time soon...wah wahBUT this is how I would love our master bedroom to look if I could do it all over again!

So where to begin... Well, I wanted to give this bedroom a country-shabby chic, bohemian twist. The great thing about Chairish is that there are literally SO many styles to choose from; its so fun mixing and matching amongst all of the products and decor, and its so easy to do so. You never know what you're going to fall in love with!  I wanted a statement piece and that's exactly what this Chinese distressed green elmwood dresser accomplished. I couldn't resist that Holm Sorensen and Pedersen Artichoke Pendant light, its absolutely bold and unique which pairs charmingly against the vibrant green and other accents. I'v also had my eye on juju hats "the symbol of prosperity, believed to possess the positive qualities of birds, the beauty, as well as delicacy of life". So much meaning behind a unique decor piece. Because I wanted to keep the room feeling soft and luscious, this Moroccan style wool shag rug it brings extra warmth while keeping the room feeling chic. A ornate scrolled wrought Iron bed grounds the room giving a sophisticated yet surprising mesh of character. The gold accents help anchor the room and the pillows add some playful appeal and contrast against the neutral tones. The easiest way to bring colour into your room is through pillows, and they're super comfy too ;). To top the room off, this antique carved peacock Indian balcony mirror, is a showstopper! It's a piece that deserves its very own wall. Especially when it comes to mirrors, that is something you want to invest your money on; if you feel comfortable in it, then its a winner! A room that is filled with history and culture is a room with influence and a story to share. I believe that all of these pieces have some history which sometimes is the perfect way to make a room shine.
