Our Updated Laundry/Mudroom Reveal

Hey guys! I’m sharing a blog post on our laundry/mudroom with all the most recent updates. This room has really transformed over the last year and I love everything about it! It’s such an welcoming room for all of our guests! Plus it makes laundry enjoyable ;).

The first big addition we added to this room was Metrie Vertical Shiplap and what a project that was! For a few beginners, it was a very tedious job full of measuring and cutting but there was no better time than this spring during civid to learn how to tackle this DIY.

There are so many great DIY blogs out there that give you detailed step by step tutorials, I’m not sure if our method would be beneficial haha. But I can definitely give you some tips and things we learned along the way that might help you before you begin adding vertical shiplap to your walls :)

We used pre-painted 5 1/2" Metrie Complete Polar White Shiplap (Model #1676391 in Length 12').

You will need:

nail gun
miter saw
construction adhesive
wall caulking (dap is the best). Also caulking is your saviour for hiding all those lines and mistakes
level
measuring tape

The hardest part was trying to measure and figure out where the shiplap would end around the windows and doors. A professional would be all over making sure that both window and door ends would look identical but in our case we had no idea how important this was until we started applying the shiplap to the wall.

None-the-less, we are super happy with how the vertical shiplap turned out! Even if there are a few minor imperfections, you might not notice unless you are a professional finisher, haha.

We added the most gorgeous custom roman shade to our window from Blinds To Go — now this is one of those finishing details that make a room feel extra cozy and completed! I love this roman shade so much I want to add them to the rest of the rooms in our home!
