Our Dining Area Update with Mobilia Canada

We finally updated our dining space since moving in, and it's so much better than I could have imagined! I'm so happy with how our area turned out with the help of Mobilia Canada! Mobilia has so many amazing and diverse furniture and decor pieces, some sourced all over the world. I love how you can mix something modern with something a little more rustic to create a look that is completely your own!

I cannot say this often enough, but if I had to give any type of home design advise (I'm no expert by any means), I would suggest to wait and fill your home with the pieces you absolutely love. The biggest mistake you can make is buying a table to just fill the space even if that means you don't love it. It should take time for a space to evolve and feel like you. In the long run, you will save by waiting for "that" piece and you will love your home even more :)

5 Key Features When It Comes to Designing A Dining Room

1. Statement lighting over the dining table. For proper size of the light fixture itself, add the length and width measurements of the room together. OR make sure your chandelier is one-half to three-quarters the width of your table. Lighting is one of the first visuals you will notice in a space, good or bad!
2. Add a buffet/shelving for additional storage. A buffet or shelves provide extra storage for dishes, flatware, linens, and also serve as an area to decorate/ provide opportunity to personalize with your favourite items. Your home should reflect you!
3. The Table. Whether it be an 100 year old harvest table, a round tulip marble table or a live edge acacia table... it's important that you find one that compliments your dining space + is the correct size for your daily use.
4. Seating. Use seating that is both comfortable and functional. Mix it up by adding two "stylish" seats at the ends of the table. This is a great way to make the space feel interesting and personal.
5. Ground the dining area. Sometimes there can be a lot going on when there is a table + chairs + buffet + decor all in one space. The best way to pull all of these pieces together or to "ground" the dining table is by adding in a rug to soften the overall space. Also having a backdrop that isn't busy like large artwork, repetitive frames on the wall or two barn doors help keep the area balanced.
